Editorial policy
How MareebaShire.com reports local news, uses automation and corrects the record.
Independence
MareebaShire.com is an independent community information service. It is not Mareeba Shire Council and is not affiliated with Council. We link to Council and other public bodies because they are primary sources for decisions, notices and services.
Sources and verification
News briefs must identify and link the official source. Council decisions are reported from published minutes or an official statement. Agendas and officer recommendations are described as proposals until minutes or another official record confirms an outcome.
AI-assisted reporting
Automation monitors public sources and helps draft concise summaries. Each published brief carries a disclosure. The system is instructed to use only supplied source material, avoid invented quotes and separate decisions from proposals. Legal and regulatory information is general reporting, not legal advice.
Images and attribution
News reports use official source images or credited real photographs. Council minutes reports do not use unrelated illustrative photos. Regional file photos are labelled and linked to their creator, source and licence on the image credits page.
Corrections
Material errors are corrected promptly. Substantive corrections are dated on the story and retained in the corrections log. Send the story URL and supporting information to [email protected].
Updates and expiry
Emergency notices and time-sensitive service alerts are removed from breaking-news treatment when they expire. Older stories remain available as a public record and show their original publication date.
Conflicts and commercial content
Advertising, partnerships and sponsored material must be labelled. Commercial relationships do not determine news coverage.
