Free disaster preparedness event and Cyclone Jasper documentary screening at Mareeba Drive-In
Community invited to 'Dinner and Disaster' event featuring Stories of Jasper documentary and emergency service information ahead of severe weather season.

Mareeba Shire Council is hosting a free community event called 'Dinner and Disaster' on 17 October 2026 as part of Get Ready Queensland. The event will screen the documentary Stories of Jasper… Three Years On, which revisits the impact of Tropical Cyclone Jasper and the recovery journey of local residents, communities and services following the December 2023 disaster.
Running from 4pm at the Mareeba Drive-In, the event will provide opportunities for residents to connect with local emergency services and disaster management agencies. Attendees can speak with emergency service personnel, access disaster preparedness resources and learn practical tips on developing emergency plans, preparing disaster kits and staying informed during emergencies.
Following the documentary screening, families can enjoy a free showing of the animated film The Wild Robot. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from the Mareeba Drive-In Café. The event is funded by the Queensland Government's Get Ready Queensland program.
