Cobra Creek crossing reconstruction progresses after Cyclone Jasper damage
Council continues repairs to Emerald End Road crossing damaged in 2023 flooding, with completion expected early in the new year.

Mareeba Shire Council is undertaking reconstruction of the Cobra Creek crossing on Emerald End Road, which washed away during Cyclone Jasper flooding in 2023. The damage left over 100 residents cut off and without water service for several days.
A temporary one-lane bridge and side track were installed to restore access. The water main was reinstated earlier this year. Recent works include installation of a concrete base and box culverts, with backfilling and headwall construction scheduled before the Christmas break.
The new design is intended to better withstand strong creek flows during future wet seasons. The project is jointly funded through Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) and is expected to be completed early in 2025.
