What are Substituted Service Notices?
Under Section 239 of the Local Government Act 2009, Mareeba Shire Council publishes substituted service notices when they cannot locate current address information for property owners. These notices serve as legal notification that rates documents have been issued.
Important: If you see your property listed in a substituted service notice, contact Council immediately at 1300 308 461 to update your details and discuss payment options.

View full noticeProperty Sales Due to Rate Arrears
Council may pursue public auction sales of properties when rates remain unpaid for extended periods. Properties become eligible for sale under the following conditions:
Rates overdue for 3+ years
Properties with rates unpaid for three or more years may be eligible for sale by public auction.
Vacant land - 1+ year overdue
Vacant land with rates overdue for one year where judgment has been obtained.
Commercial property - 1+ year overdue
Commercially-used properties with rates overdue for one year where judgment has been obtained.
