Bicentennial Lakes & Walking Trails
FREEA peaceful oasis in the heart of Mareeba, these man-made lakes are surrounded by walking trails, picnic areas, and excellent birdwatching opportunities. Barron Falls Lookout
10 min driveThe most accessible waterfall in the region, just off the Kennedy Highway near Kuranda. During the wet season (Dec-Apr), the Barron River becomes a thundering cascade plunging 260 metres into a gorge. Even in the dry season, the lookout offers stunning views over rainforest. Granite Creek (In Town)
Town centreDon't miss the creek running right through Mareeba township. Easy walking tracks follow the creek through parkland, with picnic tables, shaded rest areas, and seasonal swimming holes. Start from Centenary Park and walk downstream to Rotary Park (1.5km).

Wild Rock Wallaby Spotting
FREEWhile Granite Gorge Nature Park offers guaranteed wallaby encounters for $13, you can also spot endangered Mareeba rock wallabies in the wild for free. At dusk, drive slowly along Granite Gorge Road and watch the granite boulders near the park entrance and along the roadside. Wild wallabies emerge to feed in the late afternoon, especially near dawn and dusk.
